How Chicago Plans to SAVE Their Food Desert Crisis: Taxpayer-Owned Grocery Store?

YouTube player

In a rather innovative attempt to address the rapidly growing food deserts on the west and south sides of Chicago, the city has proposed a solution. Mayor Brandon Johnson is pioneering the idea of a municipally owned grocery store, funded by the taxpayers themselves. Considering how certain local residents seemed so enthusiastic about giving themselves unauthorized discounts from existing grocery stores, resulting in many of them shutting down, this taxpayer-funded approach should surely fix everything. The Johnson administration champions this move as a step towards food equity and accessibility. But perhaps, just maybe, addressing the rampant crime and shoplifting might have been a more straightforward approach? Well, only time will tell how this “brilliant” strategy pans out.
