Taking the vessel on a wild 40-mile escapade up the Columbia River, the thief managed to elude police, raising eyebrows about this new type of crime. The saga began when our audacious thief swam across the Willamette River, hopped onto fireboat number 21, and sped off. With law enforcement and the Coast Guard in hot pursuit, the nautical joyrider eventually abandoned the boat in Kalama, Washington. And while officials have yet to confirm his motivations, they do speculate a few too many pirate movies might be to blame.
