When summer comes to Seattle, the locals seek to cool off in whatever way they can – it appears that even those residing in homeless encampments feel the heat. A bizarre addition has appeared amidst the usual clutter of a homeless camp located near Highway 509 and Myers Way, a full-fledged swimming pool. As one might imagine, this has sparked a deluge of reactions from the locals, most of them not amused in the slightest.
This makeshift recreational facility, which popped up alongside the encampment known as the ‘Myers Way camp’, is much more than a mere spectacle. Its existence has unleashed a flood of frustration, particularly from seniors living nearby, who feel deserted by city and state authorities. The neighborhood’s peace, once punctuated only by the hum of the nearby freeway, has been disrupted with daily cacophony, including sporadic gunfire ringing out from the encampment, instilling fear in its elderly inhabitants. This absurd scenario merely accentuates the city’s inability to deal with the burgeoning homeless crisis, much to the dismay of the residents who bear the brunt of this bureaucratic inefficiency.
